Music Under the Stars Coming to Columbia City

Seattle Chamber Music Society presents free music in Columbia Park

Gather friends and family, pack a picnic, stretch out on the lawn, and enjoy some of the best classical music ever written. It’s another summer of Music Under the Stars, a series of free outdoor musical evenings presented by the Seattle Chamber Music Society, in partnership with the Rainier Arts Center, Classical KING-FM, and Seattle Parks and Recreation.

Since 1993, these free open-air events have grown to encompass parks in four neighborhoods throughout Seattle. The evening events take place through out July; Mondays at Delridge Playfield, Wednesdays at Volunteer Park, and Fridays at both Columbia Park and Freeway Park.

Friends and neighbors join us at Columbia Park in front of the Rainier Arts Center on Friday evenings July 7th, 14th, 21th, and 28th. Each event begins at 7:30 PM with live music performed by local student and pre-professional chamber ensembles. Then at 8:00 PM, the evening continues with an audio broadcast of world-renowned artists performing at Benaroya Hall, live – streamed directly to Columbia Park by Classical KING-FM.

“Music Under the Stars is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to get together in the evening air, and enjoy great music in a very casual environment,” says Artistic Director James Ehnes. “And because the radio broadcast is live, our park audience gets to hear for free the exact concert being performed that very moment for the audience at Benaroya Hall.”

Each event takes place in Columbia Park, on the corner of Rainier Ave S and S. Alaska (between the Columbia City Library and the Rainier Arts Center).
