Tarin Santos, a student at Washington Middle School, served as a page this week in the Washington State House of Representatives. Sponsored by state Rep. Sharon Tomiko Santos (D-Seattle), Tarin is the daughter of Meagan and John Santos of Seattle. She is also the granddaughter of Rep. Santos.
Pages perform a wide variety of responsibilities, from presenting the flags to distributing amendments on the House floor. In addition to contributing to the efficient operation of the Legislature, pages receive daily civics instruction, draft their own bills, and participate in mock committee hearings. In her free time, Tarin enjoys creative writing, voice acting, and song writing.
“I don’t often get to play the role of grandparent and legislator at the same time,” said Rep. Santos. “I had that privilege this week. I am incredibly proud of Tarin, and know her compassion and intelligence will serve her well.”
