Tyrus Gilbertson was living with his father until he gained full custody of his two children – son Riley, 15 and daughter Corrine, 7. Knowing he needed to find a new place for his family, Tyrus sought out the services at Mary’s Place – a local organization that provides shelter, nourishment and resources to families in crisis.
During their time there, Tyrus worked hard to establish a safe home for his children, ensuring they attended school each day. Last November, the Gilbertson family was supposed to receive the keys to their new home but faced a series of logistical setbacks that delayed their move.
Now, after four months at the ready, the family has moved into their forever home in South Seattle, and Tyrus has aspirations to go back to school to become a welder!
Last week, Mary’s Place and Delta Dental of Washington helped the Gilbertsons settle into their new home – bringing many of the items they need to outfit their new space such as bed frames and bed sets, a dining room table and chairs, a sofa, dressers and kitchen items right to their doorstep.
And after nearly a year of planning and months of setbacks, the Gilbertson family is finally able to make their new house a home.
