Martin — Central District native and longtime owner of Island Soul Rum Bar and Soul Shack in Columbia City — comes from a family of entrepreneurs. His father owned a restaurant, grocery store and construction company, and his mother ran a daycare and hair salon.

Martin also owns Northwest Industrial Staffing — an employment agency dedicated to finding work for others. His wife Gaelyn helps run the staffing firm and this kids — Bryce and Caitlin — help run the restaurant.

Martin’s 10-minute Elevate 2017 talk will focus on the importance of asking for what you need RIGHT NOW to create success.

“Proud brothers sometimes don’t want to ask another brother for help,” he says. “But we need to change that mindset. Why reinvent the wheel when there are others willing to share their gifts and talents with you? What allowed us to be successful in the restaurant industry was talking to others who had already achieved success in the food business. The same with staffing business. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!”

Elevate 2017 is planned for Sat., Jan. 21, at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton at Southcenter (16500 Southcenter Parkway, Tukwila WA 98188).

Other speakers include Rashad Norris, Director of Community Engagement and Outreach, Highline College; Sheley Secrest, Attorney and Vice-President of the Seattle NAACP; Veronica Very, CEO of The Wonder of Women Movement and WOW International; Devin Stubblefield, Financial Wellness Coach; Teresa Springer, CEO of an Emerald City Smoothies franchise and Seattle Fashion Week; Sean Goode, Executive Director of the 180 Program; Kela Hall, Workforce Mentor and Co-Founder of KD Hall Communications and Debrena Jackson Gandy, Elevate Producer and best-selling Author, Speaker and Success Coach.
