Neighbor Appreciation Day: Tell Us Your Best Story for a Chance to Win

Seattle’s 21st annual Neighbor Appreciation Day is coming up on Sat., Feb. 13, and there are many ways to celebrate:

  • Use the comment section below to share a story about your best neighbor. One story will be selected for publication in GO: South Seattle, and the winner will receive a complimentary GO: South Seattle t-shirt. GO!
  • Participate in the activities happening or add your own event. Find more information here. Many Seattle Fire stations along with pools, parks, and neighborhoods are hosting celebrations and work parties.

Neighbor Appreciation Day began in 1995 when Phinney Ridge activist Judith Wood suggested that the City designate “a special day to celebrate the goodness in those around us and to reach out and strengthen our bonds to each other.” Mayor Norm Rice proclaimed the Saturday before Valentine’s Day as Neighbor Appreciation Day. The observance has grown every year since. Photo/Denise Gloster
