Bob’s Is Back, Just In Time for Christmas

Bob’s Is Back, Just In Time for Christmas

Five months after a two-alarm fire damaged Bob’s Quality Meats — a family-owned full service butcher shop in Columbia City — the venerable South Seattle institution has reopened.

Founder Robert “Bob” Lee Ackley opened the first Bob’s Quality Meats in West Seattle in 1967. Fourteen years later, he bought Nelson’s Meat Market in Columbia City from the widow of Butch Nelson, whose father had opened  there in 1909. Ackley retired in 1997 when his son James took over. He died in Bremerton on Dec. 1, 2011.

Earlier this year, an accidental fire caused $300,000 in damage and owners James and Thien Ackley were forced to close for repairs. Now they’ve reopened just in time for Christmas and are taking orders for prime rib, crown roast, honey-glazed spiral-cut ham and more.
